Bali’s visa on arrival is Indonesia’s B1 visa: IDR 500,000 for a 30-day stay, extendable once to 60 days, and US passports qualify. You buy it online before you fly or at the counter at Ngurah Rai airport. Staying a month or two? Here is the full cost with Bali’s tourist levy, when and how to extend, and what a visa run looks like after day 60.

What Bali’s visa on arrival is and who can get it

Indonesia’s B1 is one of the visas on arrival open to US passports: a single-entry visit visa for tourism, family visits, meetings, conventions and exhibitions, or transit to another country (Directorate General of Immigration). It is a visitor status, so holders may not sell goods or services or take pay from people or companies in Indonesia.

The United States is on Indonesia’s visa on arrival list but not on its visa-free list, so a US passport needs this visa or another Indonesian visa to enter Bali. Ngurah Rai airport is one of the checkpoints where e-VOA holders can land, and so are Bali’s seaports at Benoa, Celukan Bawang and Padang Bai.

At the border you need a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date and a return ticket or an onward ticket to another country, and the officer can ask to see the ticket. Holding an e-VOA does not guarantee entry: the decision rests with the immigration officer at the port of entry.

Bali visa on arrival cost: the visa fee and the tourist levy

As of October 2026, the visa costs IDR 500,000 for 30 days whichever way you buy it, and each traveler needs their own, infants and children included (e-VOA portal). Paying online by card adds your card issuer’s fees on top.

Bali adds its own charge: a tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person, collected through the province’s Love Bali system since 14 Feb 2024 and paid once while you travel in Bali, before you leave Indonesia (Love Bali FAQ). Every international tourist visiting Bali pays it. Diplomatic and official visas, transport crew, KITAS and KITAP holders and a few other visa types are exempt.

Payment is cashless: online before you fly, which the province encourages, at counters at Bali’s airport and port, or at registered hotels, travel agents and attractions. The proof is a QR voucher sent by email.

e-VOA online or visa on arrival at the airport counter

Both routes give the same B1 visa and the same 30 days. What changes is when you pay and how you extend later.

The e-VOA is bought at evisa.imigrasi.go.id with a scan of your passport’s biodata page, a passport photo, an email address and a Mastercard, Visa or JCB card. The portal advises applying at least 48 hours before departure, and the visa is sent within 24 hours. It must be used within 90 days of issue, but the stay still runs 30 days from the day you land.

On arrival, you pay IDR 500,000 at the designated bank counter in the immigration area and keep the Visa Voucher it gives you as proof of payment. You hand the voucher to the officer at the VOA counter and get a VOA sticker in your passport plus an electronic entry mark.

How to extend a Bali visa on arrival to 60 days

The B1 extends once, by 30 days, for IDR 500,000, and only inside a fixed filing window.

The immigration office covering where you stay handles the application. The procedure runs from receipt to photo-taking, fee check, approval by the head of the office or a designated official and issue, so plan for at least one visit to the office. The result is sent electronically within 3 working days of payment, and a missing or wrong document must be fixed within 2 days of the office’s notice or the application is refused.

Extending a Bali visa on arrival

  1. Find the last day of your first 30 days, counting from your arrival date.
  2. Mark the day 14 days before it, the earliest day you can file.
  3. Apply online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id if you hold an e-VOA, or at the immigration office nearest where you stay if you paid at the counter.
  4. Upload scans of your passport and a short statement of why you are staying.
  5. Pay the IDR 500,000 fee before your current permit ends.
  6. Go to the immigration office for the photo-taking when asked.
  7. Fix any flagged document within 2 days, and keep the electronic stay permit you receive.

Bali visa run after day 60

Day 60 is the ceiling on a B1, with no second extension. Indonesia does not issue a new e-VOA to someone still in the country: the e-VOA portal says you cannot apply for a new one without departing, and points you to a stay extension at the immigration office instead. Leaving and coming back on a new visa is how visa runs work here, and the new entry is a fresh decision by the officer, with the same passport and ticket checks as the first.

Bali has no land border, so a run from here usually means a flight rather than the bus ride to a checkpoint that Thailand’s land borders allow. The run can also be a longer stop outside Indonesia: Vietnam issues US passports an e-visa for up to 90 days at US$25 for a single entry as of October 2026 (US Embassy in Vietnam).

Worked exampleSample case: 60 days in Bali on an e-VOA and 1 extension

Invented for illustration, under the rules as of October 2026. Maya holds a US passport valid until 2030 and wants 2 months in Ubud. Indonesia counts the 30 days from the arrival date; this sample counts the arrival day as day 1, the cautious reading.

  • Wed 4 Nov 2026, before flying. Buys an e-VOA for IDR 500,000 plus card fees and pays the Bali levy of IDR 150,000 online.
  • Tue 10 Nov, lands at Ngurah Rai. Day 1. Day 30, the last day of the first permit, is Wed 9 Dec.
  • Wed 25 Nov. The extension window opens, 14 days before the permit ends.
  • Fri 27 Nov. Files online and pays IDR 500,000. She attends the photo-taking, and the extended permit arrives electronically on Wed 2 Dec, 3 working days after payment.
  • Thu 10 Dec to Fri 8 Jan 2027. The extension starts the day after the first permit ends. Day 60 is 8 Jan.
  • Thu 7 Jan 2027. Flies out to Kuala Lumpur on day 59, one day before the limit.
  • Fees for the 60 days. IDR 500,000 + 150,000 + 500,000 = IDR 1,150,000, plus card fees.
  • Next. Only now, outside Indonesia, can she apply for a new e-VOA. Landing again is a new entry and a new 30 days if the officer admits her.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still get a visa on arrival in Bali?

Yes. As of October 2026, US passport holders can pay IDR 500,000 at the bank counter in the immigration area at Ngurah Rai airport, or buy the same visa online as an e-VOA before the flight. Either way it gives a single entry and a 30-day stay.

Do US citizens need a visa for Bali?

Yes. The United States is on Indonesia's visa on arrival list but not on its visa-free list, so a US passport needs the visa on arrival or another Indonesian visa. You also need a passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival and a return or onward ticket.

How long can I stay in Bali on a visa on arrival?

30 days counted from the arrival date, plus 1 extension of 30 days, for 60 days in total. There is no second extension, so after day 60 you leave Indonesia.

How do I extend my visa on arrival in Bali?

Apply in the 14 days before your stay permit ends and pay IDR 500,000 before it expires. e-VOA holders apply online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, and holders of a counter VOA apply at the immigration office nearest where they stay. The procedure includes taking your photo, and the result comes within 3 working days of payment.

How far in advance should I apply for a Bali e-VOA?

At least 48 hours before you fly, which is what the official portal advises. The e-VOA must be used within 90 days of issue, and your 30 days start on the day you land.

Can I do a visa run from Bali?

Yes, but only by leaving Indonesia first, because a new e-VOA cannot be applied for from inside the country. Coming back on a new visa on arrival is a new entry, and the officer decides whether to admit you.

Can I stay in Bali longer than 60 days?

Not on a visa on arrival. Indonesia's single-entry visitor visa (index C) is a separate application that gives 60 days on entry and extends in 60-day steps up to 180 days in total.
